The implementation plan is coordinated by a dedicated Dysphagia Specialist, Key Account Manager and Primary Care Specialist:

Initial time-bound activities are agreed with the trust

Training and support is offered to HCPs and patients

We provide staff ‘drop in’ sessions and facilitate study days

‘Train the Trainer’ training is cascaded through the organisation

Our training programmes can be tailored to your home’s needs and be booked in advance for a rolling 12–month educational package.

Colodny (2001) identified the need for education about dysphagia.1

Expectations and timelines

Training expectations
  • All training sessions are pre-booked and modules agreed for 12 months

  • Minimum attendees: six attendees per session with no maximum required

  • Provide a training room suitable for practical demonstrations

  • If the training needs to be rearranged, please give 48 hours’ notice

  • To ensure safety, training can only be provided to care homes that use Thick & Easy Original or Thick & Easy Clear

Timelines
  • Training sessions to be completed within 12 months. Four training sessions per year will be planned with each partner in a 12-month period. The dysphagia theory and practical session will be covered in one training session

  • Able to carry out several sessions of one module to ensure all care staff have been trained

  • Training will be repeated on an annual basis to ensure new staff are trained on dysphagia
